| Aseptim™ Photo-Activated Oral Disinfection |
The Aseptim system utilises Photo-Activated Oral Disinfection and is used to improve restorative success in caries and endodontic treatment by eliminating all species of oral bacteria on demand: stopping decay, saving demineralised tissue and encouraging natural remineralisation. The Aseptim system is supported by an extensive list of peer reviewed, published microbiological and clinical studies.
Aseptim technology is based on two components: a solution of dilute, pharmaceutical grade tolonium chloride (a vital stain) and a red light system of a specific wavelength to activate the Aseptim solution. Aseptim is a class II device.
Its use does not normally require eye protection or any other safeguards usually associated with lasers.
And it generates no heat whatsoever.
Introduced into dental hard tissue, the Aseptim solution selectively targets and locks onto all bacteria.
When the solution is activated by the Aseptim light it releases singlet oxygen which ruptures the cell walls of bacteria killing them in seconds1,2,3,5.
Aseptim solution selectively eliminates all bacteria and, unlike other methods of disinfection, does not affect any other normal tissue nor does it stain the gingivae or restorations.

Aseptim caries treatment |
| Aseptim can be used in all carious lesions1,2,5,6,14 including fissures, crackedteeth and crown preparations. Aseptim is versatile and inexpensivecompared to other techniques. |
Aseptim kills all bacteria including:
|
- Streptococcus mutans
- Streptococcus sobrinus
- Actinomyces
- Veilonella
- Peptostreptococcus micros
- E.faecalis
|
- Total streptococcus
- Streptococcus intermedius
- Lactobacillus

Aseptim in Endodontics |
Disinfection of root canals is vital for long term restorative success.
Indeed, inability to guarantee disinfection is a very significant factor in endodontic failure.10,11,12
Aspetim is particularly useful in endodontics.7,8,9,14
It simplifies and is more effective in disinfecting the complex anatomy of root canals.
Also if the apex is breached treatment may still continue as Aseptim is completely benign, unlike more aggressive conventional agents such as hypochlorite.

The Aseptim Combi unit is enhanced by the addition of a curing light attached to the Aseptim unit.
The curing light is not used during any Aseptim procedure but is supplied - at the request of many dentists - to save valuable space on the bracket table.
The Aseptim Combi curing light utilises a blue light emitting diode which provides superior performance to that of conventional halogen lamps.
The blue LED emission spectrum matches the absorption spectrum of camphorquinone, the most common photo-initiator in visible, light-cured dental materials.
The Aseptim Combi curing light provides better polymerisation performance at lower exposure times.
|
In summary the Aseptim Combi curing light offers the following benefits:
- Powerful LED for fast curing
- Light increases progressively in ramp more towards full intensity
- Low heat, no noise, no bulb to replace
- Lightweight, cordless design
- Simple to operate, yet versatile
- Rechargeable
- Stable light output
- Built-in power check
- Low battery warning and stand-by mode
